Ole Mississippi River

So we took homeschool out of the classroom today, and learned something about about the Mississippi River. From from our backdoor, you can literally see the tree line of the Levee. We studied about how long it is, the current, the boats, and how it changed directions during the earthquake. Then as an added bonus, I pulled up Old Man River himself, singing with the Memphis Sunset Orchestra, Old Man River! I remember going to see this performance in 1995, when I was just 19 years old.

Then, we took a journey the whole 5 miles from our house , and I’ll let them see the river. It was the first time they had been there, and they were pretty freaked out about it all! You can see whole trees floating down the river, looking like small sticks because the river is so huge. We talked about how the tall trees that line the banks of the river, sometimes or completely submerged during floods. It was a great experience.
